初めて音源を配信した6日後にメジャー契約を決めた2014年結成のLAに住む3人組が、12インチのリリース、さらにホールジーやジョン・メイヤーのツアー・サポートを経てファースト・アルバムを完成。バンド名と似た発音の〈Rainy〉に引っ掛けて冒頭で雨音を挿入すると、4つ打ちでモダナイズした80sファンク調 Good Girls ほか、R.E.M.風のギター・ロックに、テクノやブレイクビーツを咀嚼したバラード、ホール&オーツっぽいソウル・ポップなどを自由に横断。同じUS西海岸のDNCEみたいにはしゃぐのではなく、愛や失恋の痛みをU2の影もちらつかせたカラフルでスケールの大きいサウンドに変えていく。その様子は総じて新作での1975のようだ。例えば ILYSB はサンタモニカからハリウッドに戻る車の中で、助手席の女の子が電話口に呟いた〈I Love You So Bad〉から着想を得たというもの。日常で感じる傷心やすれ違いが、ホロ苦さと愛しさを連れてくる。
